Nobody here is putting you down. And everyone here would love to see everyone excel. Everyone here is sharing a story. Stories of life events. I had someone high up in the industry tell me. You see that guy fishing? Yep! You see his boat? Yep! You see his smile? Yup! He said id love to be that guy! I was taken back and said what do you mean. Your in the industry and you fish nearly 365 days a year. He said and corrected me. He said I watch people fish for 365 days a year. I cook them food, clean there shit, make there beds, missed my first kids steps, my wife had our second kid without me. When I take A day off, the money stops. No sick days, no vacation time. Bitchy customers, and I watch them fish. The guys who enjoy fishing are guys retired, Business owners, and people with a great paying job. They are the ones who fish.

Nobody is telling you to not follow your dreams. Lets look at it this way. We are telling you to go to school. Lets sub fisherman with a college football player. Your an all star football player and do great. People love you, cheer for you. You graduate and get drafted. Well you suck at pro football. What do you have to fall back on? Your schooling. You failed at being a pro football player and now your still making money with your degree.

Back to fishing. Go to school get a degree and then start your dream of the fishing world. 1st your degree may get you a marketing job or whatever with a big tackle company. Now you're fishing and your ARE THE COMPANY. 2 you start your 6 pack charter or whatever and it does great for a few years then takes a shit. Now you have a degree to fall back on until business picks up. 3 getting a degree and a good job allows for retirement. Then you fish everyday after that. Mitch you follow Sergio don't ya? He is retired and now living the American Dream. He had a great job and did fishing as well. Sergio makes all of us jealous but he earned it. He worked damn hard everyday to be where he is today.

Yesterday I turned down a prevailing wage job. The job is 50 bucks an hour. Why would I do that. Because the grass isn't greener on the other side until you work for it. What that means is that I would have to stop going to school again. Yes I would make 50 an hour and then the work slows down and I make 0. I have no degree or certs to go anywhere else. I'm go ol unemployed again. My retirement would be 0 cause i would have to use it to get by. Dude I'm 26 and I'm telling you this because it's happened 3 times. I'm a damn hard working American but if there isn't any work, well I get the good ol US of A birdy and sit and wait for jobs to open. DWP was hiring for a outside tech position. 500 of us applied. You get in with them your set for life. 3 positions opened and 3 were given to guys who had degree but didn't have anything to do with the job. Why because it shows the company they are will to do what it takes. I who have experience and can do the job didn't get it. Fireman they don't hire out of the academy anymore. You have to have a 4 year degree and fire training to be hired. Otherwise it's a 10 year wait or more driving the meat wagon (emt). My cousin Allan drove for 10 years before getting on with the fire department. Not even local to where he life's.

Yes there is a few people out there who have got that lucky spot and living the dream and life is easy. But that's on 2% of the people. The rest of us don't get that job.

9 out of 10 captains have some other way of making money. They can't do it just with that.

In the farming world. 10 out of 10 farms now have to seek other income.

Your a great kid with a bright future. At some point in life your will get to a point to where you wished you could go back and start over. Learn from our mistakes and don't make them yours.

My buddy went to school for 8 years. Now is making over 150 an hour and loves life. If you think about it. 8 years is not that long.

You're giving 4 years of your life to make a difference in your life for the next 80 years.

Go to school case, your dream and have something to fall back on.

In closing I'm done with this topic. My parents didn't push me to go and I'm suffering now from it. Yes I pay my bills and eat well and have a roof over my head. But I don't have the freedom to make a change easily. I really hope that you listen, go to school then start your fishing career. Cause if it takes a shit, gas gets to 10 bucks a gallon. MPLA closes the ocean. You'll be glad you did.

You can still go to school and fish tournaments. And don't throw Prostaff heavy like you do. It's really cool to rep something you love, it really is. But Prostaff ain't gonna pay your bills. Read this article http://www.bdoutdoors.com/article/so-cal...onsorship/

Very True, and Very well said...
that article is a great read, very well PUT and i quote "The first thing that needs to be cleared up is the misnomer that the
“pro” in “pro-staff” is an abbreviation for “professional”. Sorry to
burst your bubble, but it's actually an abbreviation for the much less
flattering word “promotional”. So while the title “professional-staff”
may conjure images of a fisherman with his sponsors kneeling at his
feet, jostling with one other to raise gifts of free tackle to their
king; the title “promotional-staff” sounds just like what it is, a
fisherman who helps a company sell their products, in exchange for
discounted or sometimes free tackle."
Let God lead the way!
