big plans for next season.
#1
This next year I plan on getting much deeper into the fishing game. This will mean upgrading my rod and reel arsenal. As of now I have a bottom fishing setup, my bass setup, and my 25lb yellowtail surface setup. I'm going to be getting set up for tuna fishing, surface iron fishing, and 30-40lb bait setups. Up until now I've been mostly riding 1/2-3/4 day boats. Next season I plan on doing an overnighter at least once a month. Then there is the big ticket. The wife says that if I can keep it under $20,000 a boat purchase is a possibility. The only down side to that is that I feel like the added cost of a monthly payment, gas, bait, and boat maintenance will make fishing too expensive to do on a regular basis. Thoughts on this would be appreciated as well as input on any of the things I've talked about so far. Again this is just a plan. I'm sure things will change before next season but one thing is for sure. I'm going to be fishing ALOT!

All great goals man and I agree on your feeling about the boat. What you should do is add up the cost of all your 1/2 and 3/4 day boats throughout the last year and see if that number is equal to what a boat payment would be with gas and maintenance.

The cattle boats are always going to be cheaper. I’m going to be putting more money into fishing regardless. The question isn’t if it’s more cost effective. It’s if the comfort of fishing a private boat is worth the extra cost and if I could afford to fish on a regular basis. I’d hate to buy a boat and have it sit because I can’t afford to fish it.

search for the post I did on cost of a charter, that's a start point. the next point is this. much what jimbob had to say, either you want it and will make it work the way you want or you will dream about it. I am not trying to be a dick or insult anyone here. owning a boat is almost a joke if you doo not have room to store it, if you can not pay for really good insurance, if you can not at least use it 1 time a month. Now that last part I mean at least 12 times a year. so now you have the next part can you do it alone. I have many of days went out ocean and lake by myself. smart maybe not, but the point is again like what jimbob stated goals and what do you want.......

I have lots of boats I find and if your in the market let me know, less money than you would think.

My Arima is going on the market soon. With two people splitting the cost, it's cheaper than a party boat.

I will say owning a boat is more expensive in the grand scheme of fishing, but the doors that open to you make it so much more worth it. At least in my opinion. Haha

When you have a boat, party boats just aren't as fun anymore.
