Ha ive done something similar...twice! Brand new avet fell out of not so good reel seat and literally hit the bottom of the ocean. Pulled up 300yds of braid by hand before i got the reel cus it was in free spool. Choodak should remember that one. Second time during my cast i managed to hook my bros brand new setup and huck it into the ocean. $250-$300 dollars later he had his setup back. We even tried dragging the bottom with some lead heads to snag it.
men and fish are alike. we both get in trouble when we open our mouths.
