wen tout with mitch (saltwater bass 1) a couple of nights ago and hooked up on this fat spottie, we guessed around 2-3lbs caught it on a 3" bighammer and a warbait head...

That is more than average for the most part. Depending where along the Cali coast you live the average size varies. Down in San Diego Bay where I fish at the average size you will catch is somewhere between 10-12".
