Charlie Saraspe Ryan Kyle and myself left mission bay around 3 and ran over to SD BAY. Charlie is fishing the open bay bass saturday, and he wanted some spots for sand bass. I have him set up on this one spot where we started the drift at 9 ft and ended it in 52 ft. Big drop off but the wind was howling and blowing us against the tide which made for some absolute horrible drifts. We were getting bites though. I was fishing a drop shot fuke on one rod, and a swimbait from tenacious baits on the other. Charlie was fishing a dropshot with a fluke as well as a swimbait from artifishable. Ryan Was fishing warbaits. On our first drift I set into something pretty good with the fluke but half way up it comes unbuttoned, I'm guessing a sand bass around 2-3 lbs. Then we reset and I get bit again, wind on it, and up comes a nice halibut on the swimbait. A few more missed bites here and we move to spot number 2.
Charlie just unibuttered his swimbait and stuck a nice sculpin right off the bat. It got dark and conditions still sucked so we just called it. Went back to the dock where I got a small bat ray, and charlie picked off a spotty.
1 Halibut, 1 Sculpin, 2 spotties, Was really slow due to bad conditions, but hopefully now charlie has a few spots under his belt
