So me choodak fisher and another friend were able to get out and do some fishing on Monday. Looking at the weather our plan was to head out to SBI since we were suppose to have just perfect weather conditions. Got on the water and off we went, first to san Pedro bait barge for some bait. We were hoping they would have squid but all the had were micro chovies. Picked up a half scoop and off we went, 48 miles to the island. We had picture perfect conditions with pretty much no swell or wind the whole way.
As we are going past Catalina, maybe 10 miles or so north of the island, we spot a nice patty. Look at the water temp at its 67 so we decide to take a look. Pull up and start metering fish about 35ft down so we start throwing some bait hoping for the best with no love, they sunk out. So continue on to SBI. Takes about 2 hours get there and we start looking for squid and drifting for yellows or seabass. Have it a good 2 hours or more with no luck. We would meter some fish here and there but couldn't get a bite so we decide we want to pull on something so we go find some structure and have some good shallow water rock fishing. Nothing like pulling up quality chuckles on light gear. While doing the bottom fishing out friend goes hey dude there's a shark very casually. With how calm he was I was expecting to see a small blue or maybe a mako, so we take a look and to our surprise we see oh maybe a 12-15ft great white circling our boat. Man was that a sight to see. We stood there in just awe I this massive fish and before any of us to even think to grab our phone for a quick pic it was gone. Well we fished on and then tried for some calicos with no luck, so before our lo g ride home we made a couple more drifts over piles to pull on more fish and then off we went. What a wonderful day on the water it was
