So I got too Santa Ana river lakes around 5am and they were already letting people in. I’m seeing a pattern here and I’ll be getting there earlier from now on because they do not open a 6:00 even though every website and even there own signs say 6:00. I fished the opposite side of the lake as I did last time. I did well in the other spot but everyone I talk to about SARL says to fish the pump house. So I did. Good choice. I got my first fish before the sun came up. Small one pounder but it was a start. I got bit all day long I just wasn’t having good luck landing them. I had at least 3 fish shake the hook and two break offs. Got the second fished Around 12:30 and it was a bit bigger. Up to this point all my bites had been on the garlic power bait. I had some stuff to do so I knew I had to leave around 1:30. Around 1:00 I tied on a dropshot white power worm and started jigging within 10-15min I got a bite. It was a nice fish 4-5lber. Ended the day around 1:30 with 3 fish and I’ll take that all day over a day at work. Next fishing day will be the glen Helen trout derby on Jan 18, 2018. Hope to see some of you there!
