So yes this unit is a great unit for entry level use and inshore or lakes. Can you use it OFFSHORE heck yes! we do it.... the down fall after 500 feet its Junk, ill be honest. you can still meter fish knowing that you have to guess the fathoms if you have it set to feet at this point.
thought i was going crazy with this unit and finding fish on paddies. slowed my mind down and watched a few things and figured it out. now as for chart plotting and GPS amazing. for the money its worth it.
