Late Report 8/31/13
#1
Sorry for the late report guys. Im hit and miss, mostly miss. But we took the boat last saturday. Launched out of ventura harbor, game plan to head to santa cruz island to see if there were any seabass around that wanted to play, then fish calicos and rock fish. Our first time taking the boat on a longer run. Got to the island by about 6:30, set up and drifted smugglers cove for about an hour. saw what looked to be some bait balls on the bottom but couldnt catch anything on the squid jig. no biters there so we moved to the backside to fish the kelps and some boiler rocks for calicos. Caught a couple of fish back there, then moved a little off the island to look for some high spots for those shallow water rock fish. Found a few chocolates but not much more than that. our first time at the island so we dont have any honey holes. Yet. Moved back into the island to try for more calicos. caught a couple more. Hooked something pretty big, but broke off before it got to color. Thought it was a bat ray at first, but twice it gave the big long hard headshakes. possibly wsb or yellowtail? Will never know. after a while drifting different spots for calicos, we moved over to chinese harbor to drift for some halibut. no biters there, then called it a day at 5:15-5:30 and headed in. Gorgeous weather, water temp got up to 70.5 on the backside of santa cruz. all in all a fun day on the water just a littler slower on the fishing. next time pics to come

Let God lead the way!
Give a man a fish he eats for one day, teach him to fish he eats forever!
