The fishing is on fire at Lake Powell right now!! The only thing hurting the striper bite is the wind. We have had easy 100 fish a rod fishing for about 3 weeks now. The fish are coming out of the main channel from the dam on up to Rock Creek. Most of the fish are in the 2-6lb size. There are a few guys trolling big cranks and swim baits in the backs of canyons with water in flow and they are catching some fish in the 7-10lb class. The schoolies in the main channel are an easy bite on cut anchovies. Remember you are encourage to keep all the stripers you can use........NO LIMIT.
The green bass have been moved up for a couple weeks now and are not to hard to catch on crawdad type baits. Lots of 2-4 lb fish to be had in the backs of the canyons. Look for small rocky stretches of beach with a mudline. The water at this time is below the brush line by a bunch so don't waste your time looking for brush, fish the rip rap. Try to release these guys.....Because the water levels are so all over the place these guys need our respect. There lots of greenies to catch but.....this year with NO brush will be a VERY LOW recruitment year.
Smallies have also started to move around expect to find them in the clear water on points in the canyons. They are very good fighters and seem to be getting more and more aggressive.The water is 51-53 degrees and these guys are excellent eating!!! The limit is 25 and you are encourage to PLEASE TAKE 25 just try to take the 2lb and under size.
The walleyes have been pretty good in the evenings on gravel. Most of the fish are in that 2-4lb range. There is no limit so load up.
Haven't seen any big catfish kills yet. We do have channel cats and again the limit is 25 and they will be on the bite soon.
The fish numbers here are only limited by the number of shad they have to eat. They will eat themselves into starvation so keeping fish is important for the well being of the Lake. Do your part and come on over and enjoy some nice weather, great fishing and fill your freezer with some good quality freshwater fish.

....... I been thinking about going up to lake Powell and go do some striper fishing. I thought Lake Powell was up river from Willow Beach, but that is actually Lake Mead. Powell is 9 hours away from my house.....OUCH...
