What's up guys... I might jump on a half day trip out of the seaforth on friday if my plans work out.. but anyways... the only gear I have for the big pond is a trini 30 or a spincast penn 950ss.. is this gear a bit too much to take on a half dayer, should I just rent some gear there for 12 bucks? what do you guys think? thanks in advance..

Well when fishing in San Diego, you just never know when yellows can be around. It's alway good no matter what to have a 40 pound outfit with you. So the tri 30 is perfect, and the spinn gear is good to for them half days. On the tri 30 is it filled with braid? If so bring 30-40 floro just in case. And I'd put 20-25 floro to fish all day with and just fish the tri 30 all day.

Fill it with spectra and grab leader. You can adapt to all fishing styles per the day.

And make sure to bring some yoyo jigs just incase, like sb said, in san diego u never know where these yellows will strike

I saw they been getting pretty good count on the rock fish. That might be the easiest way to fill your bag. If that is what you want......

Yea all good advice. Listen to the captain on what he says you will be targeting. If its rockfish then you can probably set our Trini 30 up for that. If he says bass, then I would use the spinning outfit for that and have your Trini 30 ready just in case there's yellows or web around. If the captain chooses bass, your more than likely gonna be on either kelp, reefs, or high pinnacles, places those better game fish hang out. Just my 2 cents

the trini is set with 30lb mono.. the 950ss I need to spool with something, what do you guys suggest??

I'd put 30 to 50 lb of braid and a 100 or so yards of mono 20-25 lb. this way you aren't replacing the while spool every year.

both reels are good, leader is everything, the 950ss put like 17 lb or 20 lb line and leader down from there. just my thoughts
