We have family from out of the area that kept saying they wanted to get out and catch a sand bass for the last few year and my wife and I finally had a chance to get them out. I booked a trip for the 4 of us on the Native Sun, 3/4 day out of LB Sportfishing. I have always liked that boat and crew, and they did not disappoint.
After 3 days of wind the water was 59 degrees leaving Angels Gate and I wondered if we would even catch a bass? We ran out to a little deeper water to load up on some tasty sculpin and see if the water temps would come up, while the rest of local fleet went looking. Great move. With sacks full of scorpions we slid back into the skinny water and got into a really fun topwater bite using flylined anchovies. Man, did that bring back some memories!!!
Anchored on the High Kelp in 75' of water, mid Horseshoe with a good downhill current hooking calico's, sandies and cuda. What a blast! 65 people on the boat and the crew worked hard to make sure everyone had fun. Wife ends up with the JP and our family from out of town went home with large bags of fresh fish. Weather was incredible.
Get out there boys, its summertime fishing at its finest!!!!
