A few post back recently, Offishial Business Captain Mikey posted, "Dark color jigs." That post has set heavy with me every time I have fished for the Local exotics and not getting bit. "What if," is what i ask myself every time im driving home recapping the trip. Today has proven every correctness to his previous statement. We trolling the waters back north from a run south today. We had Green and silver, Blue and silver, Pink and whatever, and the one Dark color jig. As we enjoyed the company of eachother on a beautiful warm sunny day on the water. I saw a quick reaction of the fighting belt go around the Captains waist. "Hes big" and that he was. As i scrambled to get my sea legs in the windy white cap conditions. I began to move quickly, retrieving the 3 remaining rigs, only to see the Captain move left and right threw out the boat. Not knowing the size at the moment, we quickly understood he was a beast. As i removed the last rig, there he was right under the motor, easily pushing 140 plus pounds. MAKO TIME! As i began to grab the gaff and tail wrap, the words we never want to hear when its game on, fish on. Fish off, dead silent, O ring got completely straiten after a long 20 minute hard fight. We fished the hell out of our waters today CAP, we did what we could. Even though no Mako was landed, the truth behind his post stood out today. Crystal blue waters with temps above 73F, the dark color lost the war but was proven that it was up for the battle. Many offerings were presented to this gaint of the waters, but only one color stood out. Dark Color jigs took the win but lost in a malfunction.
