Whats up guys?

Its been a crazy year, I have been slammed and in a battle to catch up. Normally my boat work schedule for big projects is from November to February, but this year it has stretched all the way to May. Doesn't help that the fishing took off early, and I have been fishing in between projects. I have not been able to find the time to write on my website, or much anywhere else. I did squeak out an article for Fish Taco Chronicles due out anytime now.

So a quick recap on what is happening. Offshore we have the bluefin off Ensenada with another fish caught yesterday, and the yellows on kelps that showed up in US waters. Yes, there was a score on kelp paddy yellows outside La Jolla yesterday.

The Coronados have had yellows for months now, in the typical "red hot" one day and "slow" the next. Its best to visit the Nados after a stretch of slow days to have a shot at one of the red hot ones. Enough of those bigger yellows have slipped up the coast to keep things interesting.

The seabass showed at all three islands, but squid is still the big question mark. Not enough volume anywhere to make a trip a slam dunk. Odd considering we've had major volumes of squid all year long for the last 5 years. The yellows are also at SBI, SCI and Catalina, but again without squid you'll think they are not there.

Along the coast the tanker seabass fishery is alive and well. Something has fundamentally changed in the way word gets out, and these bites have been kept very quiet. Thankfully there has been enough action that you can just go and still have a good shot at the fish of a lifetime. Guys sitting at home waiting for the green light to come out on the internet, are still waiting.

If anyone is planning on fishing the WON seabass tourney, I will see you at Two Harbors this weekend. Otherwise, I leave Monday for vacation. Gone from May 19th til June 1st to the Eastern Sierras to catch a trout or two. More to sit in a chair and smoke a good cigar.

Tight lines, its time to rock and roll.
