Bloody Sunday Fun Day with Team OFB Outdoors
#1
@Mikey and I decided we would take the boat out for a quick trip sunday. We got a late start and arrived at Dana Point as they were putting a fire out on a boat in the Harbor. We finally get to the bait barge around 7:45 only to find out that they didn't have much. Some anchovies, and a few decent sardines and macs. We head out towards the 267 and find a small patty. We stopped and soaked a couple baits for a short period. No signs of anything so we pulled them in and continued on our way.
We finally find the boat show and set up between the 209 and the 267. We set up, start chumming with the anchovies and are in for a long soak. @Mikey was the first one to get a strike but no luck. Next up I get a strike and a small run... only to come up with nothing. We put some fresh bait on and start again. After a good hour soak we hadn't gotten anything. Just about the time we start thinking of packing up to a new spot. A boat next to us hooks up... fights the fish for about 20 minutes and loses it. Then another boat hooks up.... We say F-it lets set the gear.

About 45 minutes later a boat comes across the stern and near our lines... my line starts going slowly.. then Mike's. Figuring the other boat must have caught our lines we start bringing mine in... As soon as we do.... the other pole starts screaming.... Fish on!!!

About 40 minutes later we finally see color.... A Bluefin Tuna. Mike has now been fighting this 50 pound #BFT for about an hour on his Penn Fathom15 2-Speed on 25# line.... He finally asks for the gaff. As he hands the pole off to me.... the fish dives and comes back up.... Time for the gaff... straight to the head.... but the gaff bends and off goes the fish. Now we have one pissed off fish making a run to the bottom. Mike takes the rod and fights him back up for another 10-15 minutes. I grab the spare gaff... we're ready. Mike hands me the rod and we work him up for another 5-7 minutes. @Mikey sets the gaff and brings him on board.....Team OFB Outdoors lands a 50 pound Blue Fin!!! It was a great fight and made for a nice Bloody Sunday Fun Day!!!
