An assault weapons ban will not be included in Senate legislation on gun control. Primary sponsor, California Democrat Dianne Feinstein calls herself disappointed by the decision. Senate Democratic leaders have decided to move forward with legislation on expanding background checks and curbing illicit gun trafficking.
Feinstein said she was told she can try to attach an assault weapons ban as an amendment to the main bill. She also wants to limit high-capacity ammunition clips. An assault weapons ban is opposed by most Republicans and some Democrats from conservative states.
