Good point RedRock55
When looking at most of the BASS guys from mid west and the east, they have always fished heavy line and used leader of choice. or they most of the time went heavy.
my question is why the bait caster?

I personally would just feel more comfortable using it in saltwater than using a spinner

You make a good point, but they will have to learn sometime. Because you can toss a spinner around doesnt mean you will get the baitcaster... Still have to learn

Hands down, beg rig, for both bodies of water. It would have to be the spin gear. Between 7ft to 7ft 6in length in a rod. A 20 or 30 series reel. Salt spool with 15 lb for the local sandbass ect. Bay fishing spool with 6 to 8 lb test. Especially in Newport bay. Fresh water, 4 to 6 lb test. Do yourself a favor though, buy a big 5 special for 15 bucks for a fresh water combo.. Spend a few more on a salt gear. You can get away with spending under 100 on both. Don't use the term of spinning as the beg rig though. California doesn't for some reason use spin gear unless its Rent a Rod use. East coast, they are big down that way

Especially for yo-yo jigging. All east coast is using spin gear. How easies would it be to yo-yo jig on it? Now you would have to buy the proper gear but less work on the fisherman. Work smarter not harder.
