Thoughts on Tournaments

OK i have posted this on 2 other sites, and Yes BD.com is one! the other is HookBuzz.com

here is the question:
Just looking to see what peoples thoughts are on tournaments, like dislikes and so on.

lets see what has to be said.

I thought your original question was about what we think about tournaments in general (like you were thinking about fishing a tournament). Now there appears to be an ulterior motive as it sounds like you are contemplating starting a tournament.

I would contact ?? Fisherman. I'm sure Mike can fill you in on what a PIA these things are for those trying to run tournaments.

The Oceanside Anglers Club monthly tourneys are a blast! Two Open tournaments per year. Calico C&R and Halibut. Members tourneys are Tshark, 10 lb., 2 day offshore and a couple of others. On the water drawings for swag. Low-key and 100%+ payout (club pitches in).

I personally like tournaments because you get to meet new people and get new tips and get to share info. However it is a bummer when the people running the tournament are flakey or there is a small turn out. But in the end I really enjoy them.

I agree with zman, they can be very fun and good if their is a
good turnout and the people who run the tournament are reliable.

All tournaments will be small at first, but if established enough the end result may be great. Anglers need something to catch there eye. In this type of establishment regarding tournaments, you must judge a tournament by its cover and hope the book is good once you start reading it. But you need big companies to help to promo it or offer something big as a payout. They can be a total money pit. Its a gamble

On top of trying to get fisherman, you need to get permits for launch ramps from the cities. Its all money and how far you wanna go.

Yes permits and dates get tricky, insurance not a problem and other misc. etc...

We need more tournaments in the local areas. You need to get Monster Energy to sponsor them. They do everything else, so why not a fishing tournament?
