This weekend was Round 5 of the SWBA Big Hammer Cyclone Flash Back. What a event it was. Team Check in was at Davy's Launch ramp in Long Beach, California. Many teams arriving early with good positive energy for this event. Many teams discussing the unknowns on where to go. With the winds up for the last few weeks, conditions and water has turned up and causing many of the areas to drop in water temp. Reports from prefishing with poor and the coast seems to be fishless. With all teams checked in and boats in the water, it was game time. At 9:45 pm the singing of the National Anthem came in there the radio waves of Channel 65A. With 57 teams horns blaring and a round of applause coming threw the Alamitos bay channel, it was game time. 10 pm and one by one the boats were off into the dark. Some running south, some going north, others to the federal wall, it was time to fish. Conditions were okay, water a little lumpy, serge at the wall but with a bright moon and the waters rebounding, everything seemed positive. A scare came threw the waves as we heard, "did you forget the plug" but nothing more came threw. Thinking it was teams making fun of teams, until we got the phone call. One team starting taking on water, with there decision to run south. Newport bay was the closest grounds for safety. The did make it into the bay and everything was okay. The passengers were safe and the boat made in back onto the trailer. With that out of the way, the control boats began to run around the areas. Checking in with teams around the 12 o clock hour. Many already with fish in the well. The night seem to be holding up the hopes they all began with. Setting up the weigh in station on the docks of Long Beach Sportsfishing, the hour of 6 am came around and one by one, here we go. Team Cranks Frank Nikac and Chris Chun weighed in a impressive of 21.18 pounds and will remain holding the lead all the way until the last 10 boats. With teams weighing in at 18, 19, 20 lbs, i was sure the Fisherman Access Carne De Theresa backed team was going to win. But here comes Team Squid R Done mashing the 21.18 pound weight with a amazing bag of 28 pounds. Team Face Down War Up and Team Wallsout also edging out the early Team leader Team crank. This event was sponsored but Big Hammer, and the Big Fish of the day payout was huge. Team Face Down War Up came in with a Big fish weigh of 8.6 pounds taking home the money. The Day ended up with 5th place Team Reason 2 Bern 1, 4th Place Team Crank, 3rd Place Team Face Down War up, 2nd place Team Wallsout and 1st place Team Squid R Done. SWBA put on another great event, with some big earnings with this one. Thanks to Taco Surf and Carne De Thersa for the great Breakfast Burritos, Vitamin Waters and NOS Energy drinks. Next event is in September in Marina Del Ray. See you then.
