Sat Tagged White Seabass Recaptured

AFTCO Tackle Sales Manager, Greg Stotesbury has been putting a lot of time in on the water with the recent White Seabass bite off Southern California. Greg and friend Jim Kingsmill ran his 25′ Skipjack “Kawakawa” to the grounds in the early AM and setup among the fleet of 20 boats. After a good part of the day they got the “right” bite at 6pm, with a 53″ White Seabass that went 49lb. Upon further inspection, they noticed that the male fish wasn’t any regular White Seabass! The fish had a Pfleger Institute of Environmental Research (PIER) GPS satellite tag sewn into its belly with spaghetti tag on its back. To make matters even more unique, good friend Charlie Albright was part of the 20 boat fleet setup on the grounds. Charlie and his father, Jock Albright had originally caught and tagged the fish 2 years prior and 2 miles South of the re-capture. This fish was 1 of a small batch of White Seabass that were deployed with a GPS satellite tag by PIER making this an extremely rare re-capture.
