My first dorado
#1
I know it's a little late but it's been hectic and I haven't been able to post. But @Mikey and I went out about 3 weeks ago Sunday. Took one of our friends with us. As usual, we launched out of Dana @ around 6:30 and joined the long line to get bait. We get loaded and head out. Plan of attack was to head towards the domes and out towards the 209. Found a small paddy on the way out and decided to chunk and soak some bait for a short bit. Came up with nothing. We continue on our way and find a small parking lot just east of the 209. We had been hearing radio chatter all morning that the bite was off but there was a couple dorado patties out there. We notice a decent patty in the middle of the boats and find a spot to jump in. @Mikey starts chunkin some bait and we see a guy hook up. Dorado.

We start soaking our baits and see a couple more dorado break the surface. Not even 10 minutes in to the patty and my bait starts acting scared. It felt like I had a strike but wasn't sure so let it sit awhile. Then all of a sudden it's fish on. Didn't put up much of a fight and before we know it we had it on board

We stayed on the paddy for a another good 30 minutes with not much action. We decided we should try to find another spot and prepped to move on. Just about that time the fish started to break the surface again and a boat near us hooked up. So we decided for one last attempt. Which turned out to be a good choice as our buddy gene got hit. Fish on.... and another dorado in the boat.

It was then that gene tells us that it was his first dorado as well. And that he would have been happy just with getting out on the water that day but that his catch made it amazing.

So far it has been an amazing season for me with a lot of firsts. I owe it all to @Mikey for taking me out and putting us on the fish...

Oh and here is a after pic of my dorado...
