So I got invited to go on a pig hunt up in Mariposa county by a kid and his dad that I used to coach and how could I resist. Papa Ring my old players dad set everything up for us and can I say it was amazing. This was a hunt like I've never been on before, amazing hunting lodge with all the amenities, meals cooked for us, and an amazing guide for the hunt. Our first day hunting we got a tour of the 10,000 acre cattle ranch and then two of us were dropped into spots while the third was out with the guide and no one had any luck. The next morning Saturday we put in 8 hard miles before 8:30am and only saw some pigs at about 350 yards but the guide told me to go ahead and lob one out there maybe we would get lucky haha, as it turns out hitting a pig running full speed at 350 yards isn't easy. That night again 2 of us get dropped off into areas and the third went off with the guide, they saw some but all mama sows with little ones so no shots. So now we come to the last morning, my turn with the guide and on Father's Day to boot. He and I drop the other two off to go to their spots about 4:30am and we set out. We almost got to the pea field where he wanted to start hunting when we spotted about a 200lb sow with piglet in tow. We glassed them for a few minutes and watched them drop down into a river bed. Then we heard a bunch of snorting and splashing and we knew we were on a bunch. We sneaked up the the ridge so he could see if there were any shooters down there and there were. He had me stop about 3 feet behind him and whispered they are coming back up when I tell you which one drop him. About 6 hogs came up the hill and paused when they saw us, he said the second one is good and then boom hog down. Then about 25 more went hauling butt out of there. We were both stoked to have the hunt become successful. What a great Father's Day gift to myself some fresh pork for the freezer
