Check This Out! Fish reports from COB
#1
Fish Report for Monday, July 8th: (Where I’d go)
.
Catalina: Talked to my neighbor Vince today and just by hearing about his trip up West to fish yellows, I think I want to do that next. Outside West Cove with the uphill current he said the more he chummed, the more the yellows responded. ”A Parker sitting deeper than us did a little better.” So 90′ of water and a chum bucket. Squid is off China Point and from Ben Weston to Sentinel Rock. Maybe then I’d make the run East to find a spot of conditions for the afternoon seabass bite.
.
San Clemente Island: That stuff off the Dunes has slowed way down, but there is still plenty of squid there. I’d stay the night on the squid then go around West to look at NorthWest Harbor for a seabass. From there I’d look hard at spots like Gold Bluff and that surrounding area. Its the time of year some big scores come from there.
.
Santa Barbara Island: With gyros in hand I’d slowly look around Sutil and into the backside kelp pocket in search of free swimming seabass and all the signs. Big spots of seabass have moved from HB and Hermosa, and I suspect they may be at SBI. The backup plan would be the yellows out in a little deeper water.
.
Coastal: I think if I wanted a seabass I’d head up to Hermosa and make a tank of squid first, looking around for a good jag of seabass to try and get to bite. I’d really like to go take a hard look at Rocky Point and that zone, its time. If I wanted a sand bass I would run out over the Junction and look for the birds. Turd rollers are now in the mud and chasing bait along with the cuda. With little patience if that did not pan out, I would set up on a wreck or reef and start chumming.
.
Offshore: Its time to start thinking dorado along the coast, and they are on the kelps below Dana just a few miles offshore. I know you have not yet heard about this, but its true. Guys looking offshore at kelps are running too far. Where the life is now, is where the marlin will be. If I saw the signs that there may be marlin around, you’d see me get real serious about finding and hooking one. Any day now.
Let God lead the way!
