California hunting calendar, 2015-’16
Waterfowl regulations included!

SACRAMENTO —The following dates are taken from the regulations of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and all hunters are reminded to carefully read the regulations prior to taking to the field for hunting of any species.
The 2015-2016 Waterfowl Regulations for the state are included, with updates on Sept. 19 including special Youth Waterfowl Hunt dates for the state zones.
There are exemptions, prohibitions and sometimes closed areas that require study of the regulation booklet.
Wild pig season in California is open year-round, but purchase of a pig tag is required prior to hunting. Public lands hold few pigs, and access to private lands is difficult.
Coyote and jackrabbits are fair game year-round at the writing of this, with no season or limits, but there might be changes coming with coyote regulations. A hunting license is required.
Bear season opens concurrently with general deer seasons in the A, B, C, D, X8, X9A, X9B, X10 and X12 deer hunting zones. Remaining X zones open Oct. 10.

Here are the dates for hunting seasons in California for 2015-2016:
Sept. 26: Opening day of Zone Q2 quail season, all species, limit of 10 birds daily.
Sept. 26: Opening day of general deer season in zones D-3, D-4, D-5, D-8, D-9, D-10, X-8, and X-10.
Sept. 26-27: Special Youth only waterfowl hunt dates for the Northeastern Zone.
Sept. 27: Closing day of bandtailed pigeon season north area.
Sept. 27: Closing day of general deer season in Zone B-4, and archery seasons in zones D-11, D-13, D-14, D-15, D-16, D-17 and D-19.
Oct. 3: Opening day early resident Canada goose season in Balance of State Zone, except in North Coast Special Management Area, limit 10 per day.
Oct. 3: Opening day of archery deer season in Zone D-12 and opening of general deer seasons in zones D-19, X-1, X-2, X-3a, X-3b, X-4, X-5a, X-5b, X-6a, X-6b, X-7a, and X-7b.
Oct. 4: Closing day of general deer season Zone C-4.
Oct. 7: Closing day of early resident Canada goose season.
Oct. 10: Opening day of northeastern California Zone waterfowl season including scaup and dark geese.
Oct. 10: Opening of bear season in X zones not opened earlier. Opening day general deer season in zones D-11, D-13, D-14, D-15, and D-17.
Oct. 10: Opening day of archery only pheasant season, 2 pheasants per day for first two days of season, 3 after that. No more than 1 female pheasant per day.
Oct. 11: Closing day of general deer season for zones X-8 and X-10.
Oct. 12: Closing day of season for ruffed grouse and blue grouse.
Oct. 12: Closing day of deer season for zones X-9a, X-9b and X-12.
Oct. 16: Opening day of duck and goose season in Colorado River Zone.
