Boating / Weather / Safety
#1
Hey Guys,

Lets say you want to go out on a weekend trip in our local socal waters and you wanted to make a pretty far trip off the coast.

What are the best websites to study and make sure that the weather will treat you right when you head out so that you can make a safe and fast return?

I know we should be looking at the swells but what about wind speed and wind direction?

1) How big is too big for swells for 22ft boat?
2) Is wind speed/direction a factor?
3) best websites
4) what else should we look for

Basically, just want to avoid the rough seas. Looking forward to any advice.

Noaa, temp break, even surf line for the inshore stuff. I heard a topic on safety recently on lets talk hook up. From what they said is you. It's whatever your comfortable with. Guys on the water for a long time know there limits and how far they can push. Other as soon as you start guessing yourself turn around. They had recommended the above websites. He was saying on days you wouldn't go to cat cause of weather he prob would.

yep!

Well here it goes: 1 thing knowing your boat, #2 know your limits and your comfort zone.

Big Balls doesnt mean anything. safety is key especially when others are with you.

As for 22ft boat, weather and seas are the main concerns. check the 5 days before and the 3 days after if your looking to make a long run. weather and sea can and will change with in hours.
if you have fuel for a 200 mile trip know your limited for safety to 150. US boat or Vessel Asst. is mandatory.

for to big of seas could be 2ft if the boat is not in good shape. i have been out in 20 foot seas in my cc and its 18 ft. not fun, must know how to navigate the waves and creep back in. wind is more scarey to me than big rollers, add in a cross swell and now you have some fun. NOT! watch the swell, 2-4 on a 13sec. no worries, now a 2-4 s.swell on 3 sec. with a 1-2 w. swell at 8 sec. and 2 ft wind chop and 15kt winds your in for a wet bumpy ride. hope that paints the picture.
be safe and tight lines!
Let God lead the way!
