Oct 17th Fish Report
#1
Captainonboard.org, Captain Jeff Jones

Fish Reports for Wednesday, October 17th:

Local: Lots of fun stuff going on close to home. Ryan texted me this evening to say the water on the ‘Shoe’ is 70 degrees and blue. He had a sample on the seabass, halibut and even a lingcod. The halibut inside LB Harbor are biting, but the really good stuff is in La Jolla. There is squid to be made down here, or purchased from a light boat sitting off Blacks Beach. Take that live squid and fishing La Jolla Cove (south end) for some really nice halibut, bigger yellows and a shot at a seabass. A few yellows fell for the iron today as well.

Catalina: Schools of yellow and seabass roaming around the West End are teasing anglers, but its the free divers that are in hog heaven. Steer clear of the divers please. Squid is thickest at Little Harbor, but there is squid in multiple areas. Look for the white gulls sitting and blue meter marks in 80-120′ of water, then light up.

SCI: Its supposed to be hot (closed) this weekend, but some guys are sneaking in here and finding a few yellows and seabass to go along with fair bass fishing. Live squid required.

SBI: Great weather and plenty of rumors of seabass/yellows. Its as good a time as any to venture out here. Small enough island to get things figured out in short order.

OFFSHORE: Plenty of guys out trying to make something out of nothing. The fish are out on the Dumping Grounds, and below at 150 miles. Some fish still on the 1010 and 220′s, but not the volume as a few weeks ago. Some guys are catching nothing here, some just a scratch. In front of Ensenada around the 238/295 there were scores today, but again not much volume. If running 50-80 miles for one or two jig bites sounds good, then this is for you. Otherwise, with this good weather you should make the run for the Dumper.
