Check This Out! Long Beach harbor 9/15/17
#1
So I started out my day fishing the Newport wedge jetty fishing a Christmas tree colored 3” big hammer swimbait. Fished for about an hour and left tide was super high the bait was not there so I left and went to the pier. I didn’t know what I was really looking for there but I thought it would be cool to just relax and fish. I got bored of that pretty quick. Didn’t catch anything but this beautiful sunrise.

I left there around 7:15 and made my way to shoreline park right next to pierpoint landing. The exact place I caught my very first fish in the salt. A place I have a lot of confidence fishing. I noticed there were a lot of smelt moving around so I switched to the same 3” swimbait in a smelt color. Bite was slow until the tide started going out. My first fish was this short halibut that was fun to catch on my light spinning setup.

After that it was wide open spotties until my parking time ran out at 9:50.

A great morning session. I almost forgot how fun those little fish are to catch. I’ll probably be back out there again next weekend.

It needs to happen more often.

I like to go out and do these little morning sessions sometimes when I can’t really afford to hop a boat. Just to scratch the fishing itch.
