So long story short

YES it is Illegal to take BF in Mexico. Mexican navy is on patrol. they nail a sport boat (OFBoutdoors will keep names and boats out of it) 74 BF on board down by the PENS. they boat was warned and US authorities notified possible fines.

I say don't do it!

hey hey check it out.
On 7/22.
Boat was boarded and 70+ BFT were found aboard by the Mexican authorities.
Case is to be tried in US court.
IDK which boat.
Supposedly "will be in the paper tomorrow".

La Secretaría de Marina detectó a estadounidenses pescando en aguas mexicanas sin permisos y, aunque se dijeron de pesca deportiva, rebasaron las cuotas de captura establecidos por la ley.
Por tal motivo, en caso de sorprender a otros en esas condiciones serán detenidos e incautadas sus embarcaciones, informó Matías Arjona Rydalch.
Durante su participación como invitado del Grupo, 21 el secretario de Pesca y Acuacultura del Estado, señaló que dicha situación fue informada a las autoridades de Estados Unidos, incluso se celebró una reunión sobre ese tema en San Diego, California.
El propósito, dijo el funcionario estatal, es advertir a todos aquellos que realizan la pesca deportiva que deben contar con los permisos correspondientes para adentrarse a aguas mexicanas y sujetarse a las cuotas de captura establecida para los pescadores deportivos.
Indicó que en una revisión hecha por la Secretaría de Marina a varias embarcaciones encontradas en mares mexicanos, se detectó que algunos se introdujeron sin permiso y en otros casos rebasaban los límites establecidos para pesca deportiva.
En una de las revisiones, precisó Arjona Rydalch, se interceptó un barco que llevaba 74 ejemplares de atún, cifra que está muy por arriba de lo establecido para quien efectúa la pesca deportiva.
El secretario de Pesca y Acuacultura apuntó que en ese operativo no hubo detenidos y sólo muchos "advertidos”, pero ya se estableció el acuerdo con las autoridades del vecino país para que se informe a quienes practican la pesca deportiva de que se harán acreedores de fuertes sanciones si no cumplen con las leyes mexicanas.

Ok let me get this straight. US boat can get busted but Mexico base boat are still catching em!!!! Something fishie going on here.

Here a charter boat out of Ensinata fishing for bft right next to tuna pen.
