So I've kinda been slacking on posting about some of my recent trips out. As some of you know and I took advantage of the free fishing day on Labor day weekend. This trip consisted of taking my brother and his best friend out. While knowing my brother had been out before I had assumed so had his buddy.

So we started out our day with an hour line at the bait barge out of Dana point and finally hit the open water at 7:30. We had some Intel that we only had to go out about 5 miles. Our plan was to head south to the domes and then shoot out a little. On our way we came across a couple paddies but no luck. Chased a pod of dolphins only to be cut off by another boat who instantly hooked up a Yellow fin.

So back on the hunt we went. We were about a mile north of the domes when we saw (2) boats sitting on what we were hoping was a paddy. As we started getting closer we saw it wasn't a paddy but a school of tuna. We rolled up and chunked a couple sardines and started setting lines. Mike gets the first rod out and bam... FISH ON! He hands it off to Jensen who at this very instant tells us that he has never caught a fish... and I mean NEVER!!

So I start coaching Jensen while Mike sets the next rod for my brother..and instantly we have a double hook up.

It was great watching this unfold....

we did the dance and landed Jensen 30# yft. Once it was on board I wanted a piece of the action. I set my line and the bait barely hits the water and bam we have a double hook up again. We landed my brother's 30# yft which ended up being his first saltwater catch. [attachment=2752]

I get mine on the boat and everyone is pumped... (3) on board and they are still biting. We set out (3) of the rods while gets to doing what he does best and gets the fish Gilled and gutted. Jensen gets another bite but lost it. Then my brother gets hit... fish on. He lands about a 40# yft.

It was my turn again... up at the bow of the boat I stayed for a good 40 minutes fighting this fish while it moved the boat around. I was finally gainin some line on him when he made one last run... and I lost it.[attachment=2757]

After that the bite slowed down a bit... but not before got his turn.

He was brave enough to let my brother Dusty gaff the almost 50# yft. [attachment=2759]

And I must say he did an excellent job... a perfect head shot. Once it was on the boat the guys had some fun

At the end of the day we landed a total of (5) yellow fin tuna.... (3) of which were the first for us. Thank you for taking them out and instilling a new found love for saltwater fishing. Oh and thanks dfw for the free fishing day team ofboutdoors used it well

It's about time Terri... Geez! Lol

Mikey sent me that same pic of you guys posing with the fish and the boat. I was completely and utterly jealous! My best day this year was the YT shootout, which by comparison of trips past was decent, but not epic. Thankfully the season is not over! Let's slay some more fish!
your welcome it was an awesome day
thank you to all on board for the great trip and great memories
you look hot fighting that fish and did a great job. i guess 25lb test was just enough for that fish to chew threw
Great job. Awesome work on the entire trip

@so.cali it was a great day... been pretty lucky that has been able to put us on the fish each trip. Hopefully we will be able to get back out there this weekend. When's your next trip?
why thank you... and I was loving my new Rod!!
Tried to get out over the weekend, plans got shot down. Was going to try this weekend, plans are in the process of being shot down. Maybe in a couple more weekends I'll give it a shot. I'll probably get shot down...
