Finally got my first trip in this year with fisher and a buddy. Game plan was really to just get the rust off the boat for its first trip this year and maybe do some bass fishing. We launched out of Davies in long beach and head for the oil rigs for some bass. Took some time but I finally got the first sandie on the boat and the it was pretty good fishing from there. After awhile, and no problems with the boat, we decide to go motor around outside horseshoe kelp. Man was there a lot of life there. Bait everywhere, Dolphins, and birds working. We find a good place and I drop down a salad 6x jr blue and white. A giant bait ball comes under the boat and I get hammered! I can't gain any line, this bad boy worked me good. After about 25 minutes and the wonder of what it was a toad yellow comes to gaff! This bad boy measured 36" from nose to fork guessing over 30lbs. For the rest of the time we continued this, chase the bait and drop down. I lost one more and our buddy lost 1 so we went 1-3. Went out to the 150 because we heard it was good out there this week and boy it was a parking lot and it just seemed dead out there. No bait no birds so we went back in for a little more bass and called it. If your going to go out for yellows I would say find the bait and you will find them
Sweet report man! I gotta get the rust off my boat, gear, and body.
