The Environment:
Let’s not forget that its summer and summer in Baja is hot! We’re up around 95 degrees, but seas are flat and light midday breezes help to cool things down. Sea temps are around 88 degrees.
The Bottom Line:
With a good supply of very good bait available, fishing has been equally good. We’re getting caballitos and a few more sardinas … mostly down south where the tuna are.
All-in-all: A solid 8.5 on the Rancho Leonero 1 to 10 scale.

Billfish – The blue marlin bite continues. This is Bisbee Tournament week and we’re hoping for some big fish. Most fish were taken off La Ribera this week. On the other side of the coin, the striped marlin bite has slowed considerably. Consensus of opinion: the water is a bit warm. Sailfish, however, have filled in the void. This is pretty normal for this time of year.
Yellowfin Tuna – The bite inshore just south of Los Frailes continues to produce quality fish with 40- to 50-pounders all week. Last week, they were only eating sardinas. This week they have been hitting soaked caballitos as well. Some were even taken on squid.

Dorado – Lots of smaller schoolies all over the East Cape with some of the bigger fish out on the troll.

Rooster fishing was slow this week. It seems those grandes have moved out for a while. On the bright side, there is good-to-excellent pargo and amberjack fishing along with some pompano on the local reefs.
