Catching sharks from the pier is nothing new. A swimmer getting bit by a hooked shark . . . first I've ever heard of this happening. People are idiots for closing the pier to fishermen. It's a fluke accident, and people fly off the handle over something that will not likely happen again. I have never been on the Manhattan Beach pier, but I've been on many others that usually have a Ruby's of something similar on them, and I know these businesses don't like the people fishing there, but have not been able to stop it thus far. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a huge push from some business owners, and snooty people that frequent the pier.
