The "Ultra" is on a 2 day trip and started on the Cortes Bank today for a pick on the bigger bluefin and a handfull of nice yellows. THAT is great news. Hopefully they will look west at some albacore dope I got and find something worth getting really excited about. We'll see. Fingers crossed so hard my hands are numb. Stand by......
Did some one say ALBACORE!!!! that's be awesome
Albie would be an awesome catch
Those are just a mythical creature in So Cal waters haha
so there is some DOPE floating about the albies and with what i saw yesterday, it could very possibly be true, anchovies and cooler waters. if we get a storm from the north to break up the kelp and push this way and just about the same time a hurricane off Mexico to push up the water column well then we will see EPIC!!!
Albie dope officially confirmed. BAM! Just like that. 81 Miles from the Point on the troll. Private boat.
But just one? Maybe took a wrong turn. I hope not, hope they show in large numbers
Its highly unlikely the albies will show in large #'s. Unless something changes with our water temp patterns, things are cooling and not warming up and that may keep our chances at an albacore up and keep the BFT's around. Steady water temp declines in recent weeks have reduced our chances at yellowfin in one day range and more dorado on the local kelps. Either way, we have to accept what happens and target what is actually here. If we had the amount of yellowfin that we do bluefin right now, a single BFT would be a prized catch. Amazing how we want what is not here. I guessed we might see an albacore this year, and got lucky in that prediction. I am still guessing we will see a few more. Last year they were on the 1010 and very targetable. Biting on the troll early in the morning, I made several trips to "the bite zone" and was rewarded with fat alberts. Lets hope at the very least we get that.
So your saying there's a chance, yes i knew it... well the boat i believe ended up with 2 albies and lost 4 BFT. the fish could stick around or come in to range only because the water is cooler and the anchovies are showing in some numbers, NOT great numbers but it is the food of choice for them.
Fingers crossed.
Please!!
